Sam Fender: First Ever US Headline Tour

Following his first BRIT Award win for the Critic’s Choice Award last month, Sam Fender completed his first ever run of US headline shows this month.

His LA show saw him performing his set in new ways not even tested on his Electric Brixton show just a couple of weeks prior, including a saxophonist on stage for a couple of songs, and a performance of never before heard song ‘White Privilege’ which is due for release with his upcoming debut album tis summer. His US tour also included a show at NYC’s Rough Trade which sold out weeks before, as well as his first ever trip to Canada for a headline in Toronto.  

His biggest hits in the UK were experience live by many of the American audience for the first time, including ‘Dead Boys’ and ‘Leave Fast’ particularly striking to the audience, seeing an insight in to Sam’s childhood and memories of his hometown.

He also returned for a second time to SXSW, but this year playing a number of shows every day of the week, including the VEVO House, BBC Introducing, and local Austin showcases such as The Current Day Party, and even bagged a spot on the Australia House stage!

Selling out these venues without ever having done a support tour in the US is a huge achievement in itself. It was a special event to see Sam, who is selling 5000 cap venues in the UK, back to the 200 person rooms and seeing him be conversational with his crowd, where he even spotted a fellow Geordie accent in his LA crowd.

Of course, he returns to the UK to play two consecutive sold out nights at 2000-cap Shepherd’s Bush Empire in May before heading to Tynemouth Castle in North Shields – the town that’s inspired the writing of ‘Leave Fast’ - to play his biggest ever show!
