REVIEW: LANY Malibu Nights Tour | o2 Kentish Town

Lany returned to London to bring his new hairstyle and new album ‘Malibu Nights’ to his loyal fans. The albums was released just last Friday, yet already sees the crowd singing each song word for word as if it’s a collection of music that’s been out for weeks. That’s not surprise though. Signed to UK label Polydor, Lany has always been a huge hit in the UK, welcomed by flocks of fans before they even made a significant impact in their hometown of Los Angeles.

The stage saw an array of graphics making for one of the most colourful concerts I’ve seen lately. The band members on an elevated platform for the duration of the night, visible to every member of the crowd. Meanwhile, frontman Paul Klein lived up to his reputation of being a quite a dynamic performer. He can encapsulate a crowd whether he is sitting on stage at his piano pouring his heart out, or climbing in to the crowd singing one of his signature electro-pop bangers.

But even with the well received ‘Malibu Nights’ album, LANY’s old hits from his 2017 debut self-titled release were the most immense moments of the night. Particularly, ‘Super Far’ saw every single person in the crowd losing themselves with the band. At some points, Klein just let the audience do all the singing with the band whilst he stood back, overwhelmedly watching the crowd of 2000+ sing his words back to him.

The group ended the night on an encore with his latest single ‘Thru These Tears,’ addressing a recent highly public relationship of Klein’s, and finished on a slightly cheerier note ‘ILYSB’ (“I Love You So Bad // My head hurts so good”).

LANY didn’t disappoint, and let the crowd go home with a warm buzz after seeing their favourite group from across the pond in the flesh.
