REVIEW: Fickle Friends + Marsicans | o2 Shepherd's Bush Empire

Fickle Friends set out on tour again for a milestone point in their career as they sell out o2 Shepherds Bush Empire!  

Stage laden with with tropical palm trees that made the London audience forget the cold winter that awaited outside, Fickle Friends toured their 2018 album ‘You Are Someone Else.’ There is not actually a title track from the album, but it is the catch phrase from song ‘Brooklyn,’ the 2016 song which saw Fickle Friends explode on to the pop scene. ‘Brooklyn’ was a definite favourite of the night, as the audience anticipated its performance the whole night as they closed on it, whilst confetti drowned the entire venue.

Leading lady Nat Shiner provided a glossy top-line vocal which resonated brightly through the high ceilings of the Shepherd’s Bush Empire. The night didn’t see many ballads or slow ones – but it was a fats paced hour and a half of high energy tracks one after another, as the band transmitted their energy on stage to the audience effortlessly.

Fickle Friends are a group where the live shows have always come first and foremost – they sold out Kentish Town Forum this time last year almost to the date before they even had a full EP released, and now sell out Shepherds Bush Empire off the back of their first album.

Marsicans stood as main support for the whole nationwide tour, delivering their pop-tastic indie set to a new audience. It’s a challenge for an unknown support band to catch the attention of an audience, but Marsicans lived up to this challenge and walked away with hundreds of new fans. ‘Arms of Another’ was an exceptionally vibrant performance, as well as their huge Radio 1 supported single ‘Too Good.’

The euphoric, colourful, pop heavy night was one to remember. And whilst right now Shepherd’s Bush Empire may seem an overwhelming big deal to the bands on the line up, down the line they will look back on it as merely the start of their long careers. Cannot wait!
