Marsicans | PRS Foundation Momentum Showcase - Live at Leeds 2018
Marsicans launched Live at Leeds 2018 with a free showcase on the Friday before the all-dayer taking place the following Saturday. The night was sponsored by PRS Foundation, to showcase the winners of their PRS Foundation Momentum Fund, of which Marsicans were the recipients last year.
The pop band performed their well-known hit ‘Too Good,’ which sounded more anthemic than was expected from the record. Along with this was the handful of singles they’ve released over the last few years and newer unreleased music to preview too. The group are taking their time to release, steadily rolling out single by single for the last couple of years. But the high quality of the output, more refined with each tune, makes it worth the wait and their new songs all the more anticipated.
Their latest 2018 release ‘Wake Up Freya’ is an example of the diverse styles of music the group are able to pull off, this one showcasing a song focused on the lyrics and top line, with a simple guitar tune accompanying, but the dynamicness (and addictiveness) of the song still in true Marsicans style.
The audience demographic was anything between the young fangirls (and boys) who were responsible for the numerous mosh-pits throughout the night, to a more adult audience, the range demonstrating the high quality of music the band deliver, as well as a charm on stage.
PRS Foundation Momentum Fund is a grant of £5,000-£15,000 to support emerging artists in costs involving recording, or marketing, or touring as Marscians have used it for. The group spoke with great gratitude for the funding they received through the PRS Foundation. And in the meanwhile, the next round of applications for the Momentum Fund close at the end of this month, May 29th, so get in there!
