Maeve | The Great Escape Top 10

Maeve performed her first ever gig, and what better place to do so than The Great Escape’s ‘Alternative Escape’ with Massive Music.

Presenting a new dimension of pop music, Maeve creates a dynamic experimentative sound behind her. There are electric moments when she steps away from the mic and plays drum solos up front. Behind her were acclaimed musicians Ben Jackson and Josh Taffel, members of To Kill A King and more, playing synths and pads, and providing an additional element of lighting in what would otherwise have been a dark pub, giving her an extra edge.

Her first single ‘Empty’ was released just a week before The Great Escape. The bare instrumentation of this song echoes the sentiment of the title and theme, feeling empty. The entire song is centred around the single melody of her vocals, until the end which escalates in to a larger sound heavy in bass, introducing us to the electronica style that Maeve will feature in her future releases.

An impressive delivery for a musician’s first full live set, a moment exciting yet nerve-wracking in any artists’ career, I can’t wait to see where else she takes it!
