Live Review: BRIT Awards 2018, With Dua Lipa, Stormzy, and More

The BRIT Awards took place last night at it’s traditional venue of London’s o2 Arena. The event saw a brand new host with Jack Whitehall, who’s wit and persona charmingly engaged the whole crowd all night, live and on screen.

Dua Lipa proved herself to be princess of the night. Already starting the night a winner by achieving the title of most nominated female artist in BRIT history with five nominations down, she took home the awards for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act, and a iconic performance of her hit song ‘New Rules’ in between.

Other performers on the night saw Ed Sheeran perform ‘Supermarket Flowers,’ – one of the rare times he appears on stage without his guitar and an accompaniment on stage with him. After his mysterious absence at the Grammy Awards last week during his win, he was present and bright here as he took home the BRITs Global Success Award with great honour.

Other notable performers was Sam Smith with his new single ‘Too Good At Goodbyes,’ and Liam Payne and Rita Ora performing in duet their highly acclaimed ‘For You,’ and Kendrick Lamar delivered a fiery (literally, pyrotechnics and everything) performance.

Minutes after taking home the final and most anticipated award of the night, the Mastercard British Album of the Year, Stormzy ended the event with a grand performance and stage production with rain falling on him, of ‘Blinded By Your Grace’ and ‘Big For Your Boots,’ inserting a political jab at Therea May in between addressing the poor handling of Grenfell Tower – a speech that will go down in BRIT history.
