Joy Crookes | The Great Escape Top 10
Joy Crookes is one who has been releasing artistic music for a couple of years now. By this we mean, her music videos are tasteful, as is her stage presence, as Joy creates an all rounded presentation to her soul infused commercial pop style to get her messages across.
The instrumentation behind Joy is minimal – the character of her music truly comes from her voice, lyrics, and her expressions. Her latest song ‘Power’ is eye opening, focusing on the respect women deserve but often fail to meet, but taking a new approach to the issue. No time for subtle metaphors, Joy is blunt and to the point, unafraid to communicate the resonating purpose of the song ‘You can’t take my power’ - a line which of course always gathers a cheer from the crowd.
Sharing a stage with the likes of Mahalia on the first night of The Great Escape in the renowned Brighton Beach venue, Coalition, the bold attitude she brings to the stage, whilst soaked in charming strength, shows us that Joy is one who is in it for the long run.
She started to pick up widespread support and success after the release of her debut EP ‘Influence’ just under a year ago, and has been rolling out singles since. Though her releases have been slow yet steady so far in 2018, stay patient, as she’s probably just keeping it under wraps in anticipation for her debut album which is set to release in 2019!
