Jerry Williams | SXSW Top 25
Jerry Williams proved to be one of the most popular British acts with the American audience at this year’s SXSW. Setting out on her first US shows, Williams proved fearless in the vibrant, energetic performances of her widely loved set.
Jerry’s entire performance is just the definition of vibrant. Everything from her movements to her outfits to her lyrics are some of the most energetic moments I saw in the entire festival.
Favourite moments of the set included her song ‘What Do You Want For Breakfast?’ which is one of the most feel-good enjoyable songs she has, positive romance underlying each one. Well-known amongst new music fans is her song ‘Mother,’ as well as unreleased song ‘Pistachio,’ where she showcases a more metaphorical, poetic side to her lyric writing (You’ll be my pistachio…I chose you over anyone any day’) describing Pistachio’s to be her favourite nut. She also has the more straightforward story telling type, such as ‘David at The Bar,’ which focuses on relaying a conversation she had with a stranger about life in a bar, explaining that ‘David’ promised he would stop drinking if she wrote a song for him… and she is still on the search for him!
