Goat Girl | SXSW Top 25

Goat Girl owned the room wherever they appeared at SXSW this year. Highly sought after by every British platform out there, joining the line up most notably for BBC and DIY, Goat Girl strongly represented the new wave of rock music emerging from South London.

Taking the midnight slot towards the end of the week at BBC Music’s popular stage at Latitude 30, the members sat on the stage cross-legged whilst they waited to begin, looking defeated for energy (jet lag was a bitch for every British person out there, that’s for certain). But once they began, magically a new sort of energy overcame them and they delivered a powerful set, proving unstoppable, previewing their new self titled album, released just last week.

The most exciting moment of the set was their current single ‘The Man,’ a satirical song poking fun at, well, men. But not in an unpleasant way, more in an empowering way.

Lottie Smith’s sensual yet powerful vocals are really a unique point for the group. The deep richness that her voice contains is addictive. Along with this, Goat Girl have huge instrumental portions of their songs, which the group of girls use as a chance to convey an unapologetic strength through the motion of their guitar riffs and drum hits, and the simultaneous undertone of rebellion becomes apparent.

The band are set for a UK Headline tour, having just played their album on release day in Rough Trade East last week, and already sold out tickets to their headline London show at The Garage.  Their 19-track album is not one to be missed!
