Communion Music: November - Etham, Free Money, Shiners

Communion Music have built a worldwide momentum in gathering crowds in each city once a month to showcase the best new music they can find. In London, Notting Hill Arts Club has been their home for years and this week they brought an array of pop artists and bands to the stage. Our top picks of the night go like this:

Etham headlined the night. Recovering from a finger slammed in a door, he took to the stage without his guitar but instead with keys behind him as he just sang. Usually playing with a full set to large crowds, it was a rare occasion to see him play an acoustic set to the intimate Sunday night London crowd. His set included a performance of ‘Before I Lose My Mind,’ the track that’s due to release later this month, giving the crowd a preview of what else there is to come from the pop-star.

Free Money are an indie band who do not fail to wake you up on a Sunday night. Flying their own currency of homemade money across the venue, giving the audience something to remember them with, they were certainly an eye opener. The band released their latest single ‘U Got Me’ through Communion itself, and sees a funky, throwback pop type instrumentation, comparable to band Parcels’ sound.

Shiners featured on the line up too. A band newer on the scene, with only their debut EP released last year. The group deliver classic rock, reminiscent of the style of the 80s, where heavy guitar riffs and a focus on vocals form the core of their song structures.  ‘Pressure’ is a particular good song, and was their first single release in 2016.
