Clara-Nova | SXSW Top 25
Clara-Nova is an innovative new artist who creates a trippy version of pop, taking advantage of everything modern music technology has to offer.
Performing at a joint showcase with California indie label B3SCI and international music distributor AWAL, Clara-Nova showcased songs from what was her fourth release, ‘The Iron Age,’ released just days before the festival.
Though the singer, real name Sydney Wayser, has always been keen on electronic innovation, and her new EP lets us witness the development over the last year. First track from 2017 ‘The Illusionist’ opens the EP, which demonstrates a more organised composition and prominent vocal part. ‘Echo’ closes the EP, and was also her latest single release, and contains a more ambient vibe focused on synths, soundscapes and sonic creativity, her voice used as more an instrument than a top line.
Her artistry is comprised of more than just her sound, as her releases are accompanied by visuals and multimedia creations, her EP cover itself being an abstract reconstruction of her face. This all adds up to make Clara-Nova one of the most admirably bold artists on the scene today.
