Bishop Briggs | SXSW Top 25

Bishop Briggs was a favourite of this year’s SXSW festival, after rising to rapid success over the last year on the back of her release ‘River.’

This year she released her debut full length album ‘Church of Scars,’ and showcased her best songs joining Universal Music at Austin’s Downtown Loft Hotel for a rooftop showcase. Universal took the opportunity to proudly show off their newest signings to the festival of new music – Briggs being a part of the Island Records family.

Delivering a stripped back set which saw just Briggs and a guitarist behind her, the audience were able to really realise the extent of the power of her voice, the energy of which alone can carry the room without the need for a big band. The dynamic in everything from her vocals and her movements are inspiring, rare to see such boldness in a brand new artist. Though, we say brand new, but every member in the audience knew the words to a number of her songs, her song ‘Never Tear Us Apart’ already featuring on the soundtrack on the latest Fifty Shades movie.

The showcase gave us the unique opportunity to see Briggs in an intimate and up-close setting. This will certainly be one of the last chances to see her in a setting like this as she launches in to venue tours across the world across the world this year.
